Amanda Brugel
(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar with its meaning. Many people believe that it's an island to the to the west of Montreal, but the West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." When I grew out of male companions, that's when I gave up. Many dancers make the transition to acting. In the case of Bruce, it was her drama instructor who pushed her in that direction. She was recommended by a teacher getting a part in the school's annual play. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Through the years since Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across the big and small screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the part as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was only seen on a few moments in the very first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian member.
